Merseytravel is proud to be hosting the next Moving On Conference in Liverpool, the European Capital of Culture 2008. The Moving On Conference is one of the few events where those delivering transport services are able to join with local and national politicians and other key transport decision-makers to look at real problems and consider innovative solutions. This year we will be looking at the key elements of Concessionary Travel, Smart Cards, Environment and the Disability Discrimination Act and how they impact on public transport policies and technologies.

For many years Merseytravel has provided the most comprehensive concessionary travel scheme outside London, and it is leading the way in preparations for the introduction of the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme in March 2008.

We are the only Passenger Transport Authority and Executive to receive accreditation to ISO 14001 Environmental Management System for our delivery of continuous environmental improvements across the public transport network.

Uniquely in the UK, Merseytravel is also the franchisee of the local rail network. Under Merseytravel's supervision Merseyrail has become one of the best performing train operating companies in the UK, and our flagship station, Liverpool South Parkway, is internationally regarded for its innovative and environmentally friendly design.

Liverpool 3 graces

The conference begins with the Welcome Reception on Monday evening within the exhibition area at St Georges' Hall, located opposite Lime Street Station right in the heart of Liverpool. This spectacular venue was recently reopened following a 23 million renovation programme and is one of the worlds finest examples of neoclassical architecture. The conference exhibition will take place in the Great Hall where delegates can view the famous Minton tiled floor and vaulted ceiling. The conference sessions will take place in the stunning Small Concert Room which has been fully restored to its original glory.

The Conference Dinner will be combined with a site visit to multi-award winning Liverpool South Parkway station where a drinks reception will take place before proceeding to the art deco Liverpool Marriott South Hotel for dinner.

If you are in local government, transport and planning consultancies, public transport operations or technology supplier to the transport industry, then this conference will be of vital interest to you.

We look forward to welcoming delegates to Liverpool during what promises to be a very exciting year.
